Winners of Windthorst Country Club’s golf tournament with a score of 60 were Craig Pister, Cooper Jones, Dave Jones and Eric Arthur.

The Windthorst Country Club held an 18-hole golf tournament on the weekend organized by Barry and Raye Hassler.

Sept. 12 found 39 golfers enjoying a great, and very cool, day of golf. The day began with a 1 p.m. start and ended with a lot of laughs, good memories, some entertaining golf and wonderful prizes due to the generosity of all the sponsors.

The winners of various contests during the tournament included:

  • Men’s longest drive went to Eric Arthur;
  • Women’s longest drive was won by Breanne Blackstock;
  • Closest to the pin was Dave Jones; and
  • Longest putt went to Rilla Kapell.

The tournament also consisted of an interesting hole at which the golfer who landed closest to the painted line in the middle of the fairway walked away with a prize. Hanna Steele was the lucky, or shall we say straightest, shooter coming in at four inches from the line.

The most honest golf team went to Balls of Steele with a score of 77. Golfers on this family team were Bernard and Cathy Steele and their three daughters Madeline, Rachel and Hanna.

Winner of both the Texas and Mexican Scramble rounds was the team of Dave Jones, Cooper Jones, Craig Pister and Eric Arthur, coming in with scores of 30 on each of the rounds.

Those not winning a major prize had yet another chance at various other prizes just by entering the tournament.

Angela Rygh was the lucky winner of a 1935 antique ball marker. It was a simple flat steel washer.

Peter Dayman, vice-president of the golf committee, manned the drink tent throughout the day, keeping the golfers in good ‘spirits’.

The wonderful supper with all the salads was prepared by Dwight and Brenda Larsen.

After the recent rains the course was in fine shape. Keith Swallow and Bryan Kuntz maintain the greens and fairways on the golf course throughout the season.

Money raised from this tournament as well others in the past will go towards capital improvements on the course, including tinning the roof of the clubhouse.

“Thank you very much for coming out to golf today and hope everyone had a good time,” said Bernard Steele, president of the golf committee.
