Plans for DeLaet Charity tourney are in full swing

Second major sponsor signed

A second major sponsor has committed to the Graham DeLaet Charity Golf Tournament for the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation. The Grimes Sales and Service Company Ltd. from Lampman has donated a $69,000 pumping unit to the live auction at the tournament.

With the pumping unit donation, the live auction now has four big ticket items, with another six major items in the works. Ulterra is the name sponsor of the charity event, and the first major sponsor was Weyburn Security.

"We are very proud to welcome Grimes Sales and Service Co. Ltd. as a major sponsor of our golf tournament," said Michael Hoffman, golf tournament chairperson. "Grimes Sales and Service has been an active member of the southeast Saskatchewan community for decades and this level of support clearly establishes Grimes Sales and Service as another of our great corporate citizens."

The Golf Committee are working hard to complete sponsorship spots by the end of April for the charity golf tournament, which has been set for July 27 at the Weyburn Golf Course. According to Mike Hoffman, chair of the golf committee, they are 75 per cent complete and have only 27 spots left.

A tentative schedule of events of the day start off with breakfast at the Golf Course at 7:30 a.m., sponsored by the Weyburn Co-op. Then at 9 a.m., the junior golf clinic will provide interested junior golfers the opportunity to learn some golfing tips from Graham DeLaet, and this is sponsored by Panther Drilling.

The shotgun start of a Texas Scramble format will be at 11 a.m. Every team will have an opportunity to meet with Graham DeLaet on the 10th hole, as this is where he will take tee-shots for teams.

After the golfing tournament, cocktails and a fundraising supper takes place at the Weyburn Curling Rink, and this is sponsored by Sysco. Cocktails and appetizers start at 6 p.m., followed by a silent auction. The supper starts at 7 p.m., followed by speeches, the close of the silent auction and followed by the live auction.

Incorporated in 2008, the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation is a registered charity operated by a volunteer board of directors. Its vision is to build a new hospital to serve the people of Weyburn and the surrounding district. To that end, the Foundation strives to make people in the community, governments, corporations and service clubs aware of the desirability of building a new hospital in Weyburn, and raise the necessary money to construct and equip the new hospital.
