Playoffs end for the Wings after losing to Kindersley

The Weyburn Red Wings were removed from the Sherwood conference semi-finals by the Kindersley Klippers, who claimed a 4-1 victory in the best-of-seven series. The Klippers will play the Yorkton Terriers in the Sherwood finals.

The Weyburn Red Wings were removed from the Sherwood conference semi-finals by the Kindersley Klippers, who claimed a 4-1 victory in the best-of-seven series. The Klippers will play the Yorkton Terriers in the Sherwood finals.

The Klippers ended the Red Wings' playoff journey on Mar. 11, after claiming a 3-2 victory. The Klippers lead 3-0 early in the game, by taking one goal in each period. The Wings didn't score until the final five minutes of the game. Drew George had an unassisted goal at 15:31, while short-handed; and Kevin Morrison scored at 17:04, assisted by Jesse Ross. In net for the loss was Mitch Kilgore, who stopped 39 out of 42 attempts.

Preventing a sweep of the playoffs, the Red Wings won 4-1 on home ice on Mar. 9. With some penalty problems in the first period, the Red Wings were able to penalty kill and took two goals. Tanner McCall notched one during a power play at 11:32, assisted by Brentt Becker and Scott Kirkham; and Drew George scored at 17:47, assisted by Keegan Bruce.

The Wings scored two more times in the second, with both goals notched by Kirkham. The first was at 6:57, assisted by McCall and Jesse Ross; and the second during a power play at 8:15, assisted by Bruce. The Klippers notched one goal in the third. Taking the win in net was Mitch Kilgore, who stopped 40 out of 41 attempts.

The Red Wings lost 3-2 to the Klippers in double-overtime on Mar. 8. Weyburn had a 2-1 lead by the end of the first period, with goals taken by Bruce Kirkham at 4:56 during a power play, assisted by Coltyn Sanderson and Brock Appleyard; and Keegan Bruce at 18:57 during a power play, assisted by Drew George and Scott Kirkham.

The Klippers tied the game in the second period. Both the third and fourth periods had no goals for either team, with Kindersley scoring the game winner during the fifth period. Kilgore was in net for the loss, stopping 50 out of 53 attempts.

As of publication deadlines, there was no date set for the annual Red Wings awards night and jersey auction.
