Rebels take loss at home

Team at basement of the PJHL with 0-9 record.

ASSINIBOIA – It's been a tough go for the Southern Rebels this season, despite some great effort from this young team. They've showed a lot of heart out on the ice, but heart will take you only so far.

The Rebels played host to the Sasktoon Westleys on Oct. 30 in the team's third home game of the season. Granted, this was a rather lopsided contest, as the Westleys are currently tied for top spot in the league with the Quakers (also of Saskatoon), but the Rebels were up for the challenge.

The Westleys hit the scoreboard early, amassing seven goals before the Rebels could answer with one of their own, breaking the shutout early in the second period. Rhett Franklin fired the shot that brought Assiniboia that lone point, assisted by Matt Mohart and Chase Tenetuik. But, alas, the Westleys would built on their already strong lead, hitting the bus with a 10-1 win and a continued unblemished record.

It's been a fairly intense stretch lately for the Rebels with eight games in the last two weeks, but that schedule lightens this week. The next game for the hometown boys is Nov. 5 when they play host to the 4-5 Saskatoon Royals. This will be a second meeting for the teams, with the Rebels hungry for their first win of the season, so it's going to be a wild one. Like the old adage goes, "you can pay for the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge!"
