Weyburn pitcher, Team Canada, wins Pan American silver medal

Pitcher Jorde Chartrand helped Team Canada along to win the silver medal at the Pan American Softball Championships.

WEYBURN – Pitcher Jorde Chartrand of Weyburn and Team Canada Softball captured the silver medal at the 2022 Pan American Softball Championships in Guatemala.

The championships were held in Guatemala City from Nov. 12-19, and Team Canada went in ranked third in the world.

The final day was a big one for Canada as they faced Puerto Rico in the first game of the day.

They defeated them in five innings by a score of 7-0. Jorde closed out the last two innings with a perfect six up six down, the last two outs being strikeouts.

She came into the game in relief in the fourth inning, and retired all three batters, two of them flying out and one grounding out to third base.

In the fifth inning, she got three batters in a row, two by strike-out.

Next they faced Cuba in the semi final game. They also defeated them in five innings by a score of 9-0.

The Gold medal game was against Team USA. Canada came up short in the final game losing 12-1.
