Goaltender Jack Burgart stops a goal attempt by the Melville Millionaires, during a home game on Saturday night. The Red Wings went into a shootout against the Millionaires, losing 2-1.

Last year the Southeast Vipers, a new club volleyball team, went through a building year. The 17 and under women's team is now going into its second season, hoping to have a successful year.

The Weyburn Red Wings fell 3-2 to the visiting Estevan Bruins on Monday night at Crescent Point Place. "The first period we played really good," said Coach Bryce Toma.

It began as a vision of Estevan hosting the rest of the province four years in the future, and a year later those dreams became reality. The city's selection as host to the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games is the Estevan Mercury's top story of 2013.

Derrick Pouliot and Team Canada opened the 2014 IIHF World Juniors with a 7-2 victory over Germany on Dec. 26. Pouliot also scored two assists with Team Canada, during the victory over Germany.

The Weyburn Red Wings annihilated the LaRonge Ice Wolves in a 9-1 decision on December 18. Matt Eng opened the scoring for the Wings in the first period. Just two minutes later, Jacob Jeske scored, and 14 seconds later, Eng banked the third goal.

The fisrt period of this game was as close as you could get with a 4-4 tie. Making this possible was Jakson Hunphries in net who got a real workout against the flyers who proved to be a strong team.

Coming off a 5-3 win against the Nipawin Hawks on December 14, the Wings were downed by the Bombers and Broncos over the weekend. "I'm happy with the way our guys played over the weekend.
