Canadian go to the polls next month.

Dear Editor

It always amazes me how people can be hoodwinked.

Take the Liberals’ firearm laws that they will be preaching now that we will be in the throes of an election campaign. Let’s get one thing straight: no matter how many stupid things the Liberals have done over the years, these folks are not stupid.

Justin Trudeau and his gang know darn well that pandering to the big city people will win him the election. So what does he do? He comes out with a bunch of firearm laws that do nothing to make the public safer, but in the minds of people living in the cities they believe the regulations will. In fact, some of these regulations may even cause more danger to rural folks.

Take for instance the fact a firearm having to be locked and stored separate from the ammunition is in itself dangerous, due to the fact one cannot get to a firearm if needed. The fact is, all it does is make legal law-abiding firearm owners jump through more unnecessary hoops to pursue a fine hobby, like sport shooting.

Hunting is considered a sport by some; however more than being just a sport, hunting is important to many to put fine healthy foods on the table. The banning of so-called assault firearms is a good example of how ridiculous the feds firearm laws are. Many of these firearms are used for predator control, and in no way more dangerous than any other ordinary hunting firearm or sport shooting rifle.

But because these guns are black and have a scary look in some people’s minds, they are considered to be so-called assault firearms. These types of firearms are not any different than another semi automatic firearm used for hunting or sport shooting. They are not fully automatic as some think, and have magazines that have restrictions as to the amount of shells they can hold.

Fully automatic firearms have always been illegal in Canada.

Another regulation the Liberals came out with is the transportation of handguns. It had been for years that a restricted firearm licence gave an owner the right to transport to a range or gunsmith for repairs. But no, that wasn’t good enough for the Liberals. They had to change that, and now one must get permission from the RCMP to transport.

Handguns have had to be registered in Canada since back in the 1930s and one must take a course and pass a test to own and keep a handgun, so as you can see our laws are already restrictive.

But that isn’t good enough for the Liberals.

Let hope we can elect a more firearm (western) friendly government, but I wouldn’t count on it given the voting power the east has, particularly in the large cities.
