Mom was born in Pilot Butte, grew up and went to school in Bethune. Mom married Alvin Blakley and was a true homemaker. She was always there with a hot lunch at noon and waiting when everyone came home. Mom made all of her children's clothing when we were young, as well as sewing for the figure skating club and volunteering for the war effort during WWII. Mom and Dad were avid sports fans, watching local curling, hockey and baseball and had season tickets to the Roughrider games for many years. Mom was an avid card player and also enjoyed fishing trips, picnics and wiener roasts with family. In later years, Mom took up crocheting and quilting, making many blankets for her grandchildren and Blankets for Canada. Bingo at Wheatland Seniors' Centre was one of Mom's favourite activities in recent years. Mom was very happy to have stayed in her own home until 96. In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no funeral service. At a later date, Mom will be placed beside Dad in the Bethune Cemetery. For those so wishing, donations in memory may be made to Wheatland Seniors Centre, 888-1st Ave NE, Weyburn, SK S4H 3M1, Ronald McDonald House 1011 University Dr, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0K4 or the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation, Box 1416, Weyburn, SK S4H 3J9. Arrangements were entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Weyburn (848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333).
