Florence “Yvonne” Silljer passed away peacefully September 24, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Yvonne was predeceased by her parents, William and Florence Preece; husband, Ruddy Silljer; daughter, Cindy Silljer (Kim Wheeler) and an infant brother. Yvonne was born August 26, 1931, to Bill and Flo Preece. Her early childhood took place in Amulet. Both parents worked even after the family moved to Weyburn where she received her education at the Assiniboia School. Yvonne met and married Ruddy Silljer on May 5th, 1950, in Weyburn. They had four children and as a family they moved numerous times. Following their separation, Yvonne and the children moved back to Weyburn. In April 1969 Yvonne met Hugh Sargent. They farmed northwest of Colgate. Yvonne loved farm life and was very good at driving the grain truck. Yvonne enjoyed community life in Colgate serving as a councillor and as a member of the Hall Committee. Eventually Yvonne and Hugh moved into Weyburn. Yvonne worked outside the home at the El Rancho and the Met Store in Weyburn and part-time in the Colgate Post Office. Her battle with breast cancer in 1970 convinced her to become a strong supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society. Yvonne was very proud of her five grandchildren and loved attending activities they were involved in. She enjoyed music and dancing. She liked crafts such as yarn and white mesh, beads and knitting. Playing cards was another fun activity. Reading the Weyburn Review was a weekly requirement. Her fascination with Queen Elizabeth and The Royal family began in 1953 and continued until Yvonne’s passing. She followed the Weyburn Red Wing games and later in life followed the Saskatchewan Roughrider games. Yvonne was especially grateful when her family gathered for holiday meals. She believed keeping in touch with family and friends was important, she was always sending birthday or anniversary cards and writing letters. Throughout Yvonne’s 86 years she lived her life the best she could. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sylvia (Keith) Baudria of Weyburn, and their daughters, Sara and Mara; son, Edgar (Gail) Silljer of Weyburn, and their children, Tyler, Tyson and Kelsey; son, Clayton Silljer (Sharlene Stanley) of Pilot Butte, SK and her lifelong partner, Hugh Sargent of Weyburn. A Memorial Service for Yvonne was held Thursday, September 28, at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating.
