George Elgin Dunham, formerly of Creelman, late of Fillmore, passed away at his home on November 7, 2011 at the age of 95 years.

George Elgin Dunham, formerly of Creelman, late of Fillmore, passed away at his home on November 7, 2011 at the age of 95 years. Elgin was predeceased by his parents, wife Mollie, infant son at birth, sister Viola Scherck (Fred), brothers Lloyd (Connie), Roy (Mary) and nephew Stanley Dunham. He is survived by the sons and daughters of his siblings, and his life-long friend Una Barrett of Davidson. George Elgin Dunham was born on May 26, 1916, on his parents' homestead north of Creelman, Elgin was the youngest child of Bert and Lottie (nee: Crothers) Dunham. He attended Crieff School and after completing Grade 8, worked on the farm with his father and as a hired hand for other individuals. Elgin served in World War II with the RCAF; he was shot down over France and spent time as a prisoner-of-war. Upon his return from Europe he took over the family farm and in 1947 married a local girl, Mollie McKee. He eventually retired off the farm into Fillmore. During his lifetime he drew much enjoyment from music and dancing and had a passion for creating gadgets with various purposes. A graveside interment at Golden Gates Cemetery, Creelman was held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 17. For those so inclined, memorial donations may be forwarded to the Fillmore Health Centre, Fillmore, the Canadian Red Cross or the Salvation Army. The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude and thanks, Elgin's neighbours, the Von Spreckens, who so generously and graciously lent him assistance at every turn, day and night, contributing much to his quality of life.
