John (Jack) Holzmiller was born in Newark, Ohio on August 7, 1934 and passed away in Weyburn on Thursday, December 22, 2011. Jack was raised in Mansfield, Ohio and spent his summers on Pelee Island in Ontario where he met his wife of 47 plus years, Shirley. Jack and Shirley were married on April 20, 1963 on Pelee Island. Jack started working as a warden for Parks Canada at Point Pelee National Park. From Point Pelee he moved to Georgian Bay Islands National Park and eventually retired in Manitoba from Riding Mountain National Park. Jack's love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family. Along with his wife, Shirley, Jack leaves to celebrate his legacy, four children, Richelle Lynn (Gregory), Michael John (Valerie), Heather Marie (Tim), Jody Ann (Jerome) and his "inherited daughter", Faye Marie. Jack also leaves nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom he had a very special relationship with. Everyone who knew Jack became his friend. His strong character and outgoing personality blessed all those he met. To use his words, "I've never met a stranger." Jack opened his heart and his home to many people throughout his 77 years. He always took the time to share a story and create a memory. Jack passed in the arms of his family on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Tatagwa View in Weyburn. A service to celebrate Jack's life will take place this summer on Pelee Island. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Jack to the Parkinson's Society.
