Louise Marion Springer Yeik passed away December 28, 2011 at the age of 96 years. Louise was born in Bromley Township in Northcote, Ontario, where she grew up on the family farm. She was born to her parents Gustava and Martha Springer, she was the oldest of five children. Louise took her schooling at Northcote until Grade 8, as times were hard she couldn't further her education so she went to work where small town wages were $6.00 a month. She later went to the city of Ottawa until she got married. While she was in Ottawa she took night classes taking sewing lessons. Louise is predeceased by her husband Henry Yeik, her parents Gustava and Martha Springer, brothers Florian Springer and Lawrence Springer, a sister Martha Behm also sisters-in-law Mable Springer, Amy Springer, brothers-in-law Henry Behm and Leonard Quast. She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons Lawrence (Carole) Yeik, Donald (Jean) Yeik, four grandchildren, Cory (Anita) Yeik, Stacey (Jesse) Yeik, Shane (Lynn) Yeik, Lana Yeik and three great grandchildren, Austin, Bryanna, Casey and her 90 year old sister Rose Quast in Renfrew Ontario. In 1937 Louise married Henry Yeik of Weyburn and made her home here for over 70 years. They had two sons Lawrence and Donald. After the boys grew up Louise started to work at the Union Hospital and was there 24 years until her retirement. She was a great lover of nature, enjoying sitting on her swing watching the birds and squirrels which she fed daily. She took great pride in her yard, garden and flowers. She took many prizes for her flowers, vegetables and hand craft work at the Weyburn Agricultural Fair and flower show each year. In her younger years did a lot of crafts, she also was a great quilter and sewed many tops for the E.L.W and loved to cook and bake. She loved to travel all her life and after her retirement took many tours overseas till her health didn't permit it any longer. She was a member of the Lutheran faith all her life and a faithful worker and member. She was a member of the Ladies Aid (now the E.L.W) since 1937 and also a life member of the Weyburn Horticultural Society. Louise also looked forward to the first Monday of every month in order to take the bus tour to the Casino in Regina. She loved to play and beat people at cards, and did so right up to the time of her death. This included beating all her family in cribbage in October of this year when she traveled to Renfrew, Ontario for her younger sister's 90th birthday celebration. It was said she taught the cousins there a new saying "feel the breeze" as she would peg by them in crib! She was a gem of a lady who was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by family, friends and neighbours at Legion Towers where she resided the last four years.
