Funeral mass for Marie Bobier, longtime retail merchant and Post Mistress of Halbrite was held Monday, November 14, 2011. A prayer service was held the previous evening Sunday, November 13. Both services were held from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn with Celebrant Father Gerry Bauche. Interment took place at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Active Pallbearers were grandsons: Scott Morrison, Ryan Bobier, Thomas Bobier, Conrad Ryan, Steve Reynolds, and James Haluschka. Honourary Pallbearers were great grandsons: Brendan Ryan, Rubin Bobier, Jack Bobier, William Bobier, Warren Bobier, Marshall Bobier, Spencer Reynolds, and Grayson Haluschka. Members of The Catholic Women's League formed an Honour Guard, for their member of sixty-four years. Marie was predeceased by her parents Louis and Caroline Rubin; her husband Malcolm "Mac" Bobier; daughter Donna Morrison; brothers Irvine, Lawrence, Alfred (Mannie) and Joe; sisters Alice Rubin, Ole Berry and Irene Anderson. Born May 8, 1911 in Halbrite, Marie pursued a career with the Post Office in Osage and in Dubuc, where she met and married Malcolm Bobier on November 28, 1941. They relocated to Halbrite in 1943 and acquired what would become "Bobiers' Red and White Store". The Halbrite Post Office would become a part of their premises in 1953. Mac predeceased Marie, Ross and Donna suddenly in December, 1959. With much support from her family and community, and with great courage, Marie continued to operate the store until 1980, having retired as Post Mistress in 1977 after 23 years of service. Mom, Grandma, Mrs. Bobier, Marie - her life exuded hardwork, thrift and much energy. Deceased November 6 in her 101st year, she truly lived until she died. The Bobier/Rubin legacy will live on in her son Ross (Sylvia) of Weyburn; son-in-law Don Morrison of Candle Lake; seven grandchildren and fifteen great grand children; brother-in-law George Berry of Burnaby, BC; sister-in-law Clara Rubin of Regina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
