Marion Ruth Dron late of Weyburn passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the age of 70 years. Marion, fourth child and second daughter of Joseph and Veronica Gasnarek, was born at in southwestern Saskatchewan, on December 10, 1940. The family resided in the Climax area, where Marion started school, until 1947. At that time they moved to Manitoba, living near Alexander for a short time before moving to a farm south of Virden. In 1953 the family moved again, this time to a farm at Maryfield. After a year and a half at Confederation School, Marion and her sisters began attending school in Maryfield so that she and her sister Anna could obtain their high school education. Marion graduated from Grade 12 in 1958. She and Anna then attended Wheat City Business College in Brandon, MB, completing their courses there in 1959. In the fall of 1959, both moved to Weyburn, where Marion had obtained employment at Niagara Finance (which later became Avco) and Anna, at Eaton's. It was not long after that Marion met Walter Dron. A lengthy courtship followed, and they were married September 11, 1969. Marion continued to work for a time but later quit work and stayed home, where, after her father-in-law's passing, she cared for her mother-in-law for many years. Marion and Walter enjoyed 16-1/2 years of married life before his sudden passing in 1986. During this time she happily kept house and supported Walter in his many activities. Widowhood brought many challenges. In order to be independent, she had to learn to drive. She also had to manage the daily tasks of home and yard and learn home maintenance. She became very handy with a screwdriver, drill and a can of WD40 for minor repairs, and when more man power or expertise was required, she was blessed to be able to call on her good friends Bob and Rhonda, and Stan. Marion wasn't much of a sports fan, but she did enjoy bowling and looked forward to the weekly sessions with her friends from the league. She also took much pleasure in her walks along Tatagwa Parkway. Her interests included gardening, listening to music, crocheting, doing jigsaw puzzles and painting. Family and friends were very important to her and she always looked forward to having them drop by for coffee or a meal, or going to visit them in their homes. A celebration of Marion's life was held on Friday, December 9 at 2:00 P.M. from Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn, with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Donations may be made in memory of Marion to the Canadian Cancer Society, Saskatchewan Division, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, Saskatchewan S4P 2R3, or The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation, Box 1416, Weyburn, SK S4H 3J9. Not, how did she die, but how did she live?
Not, what did she gain, but what did she give ?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of an individual, regardless of birth.
Not what was her church, nor what was her creed ?
But had she befriended those really in need ?
Was she ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear ?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when she passed away ?
