Mary Rose Armit passed away in Calgary, Alberta on November 17, 2011, very peacefully and surrounded by much love. Mary was born on the family farm outside Weyburn on April 11, 1919. Mary and her sisters were taken to school in a horse-drawn sled, though she later developed a love for motoring. Mary enjoyed curling, bridge, and gardening, though perhaps not as much as she enjoyed her Seagram's and Rothman's. She was a life member of the Brandon Ladies Curling Club and a life member of the Weyburn Order of the Royal Purple. She was unflappable and funny; ever feisty, always gracious and grateful. Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Edward H. Phillips, second husband, Louis L. Armit, her father, Frank Hammer, daughter Mary Lynn Howell, mother Genevieve Hammer, son Thomas Phillips, granddaughter Diane Phillips, and sister Bette Mitchell. Mary is survived by her sister, Annie (Mike) Legin, brother Peter (Karol), brother-in-law Ron Mitchell, daughter-in-law Pat Phillips, grandson David Phillips (Dana Hings), great-granddaughter Jennavieve, great-grandsons Blade and Cruize; grandson David (Karen) Agopsowicz, great granddaughter Danielle, great grandsons Adam and Zachary; son-in-law Bill (Betty) Howell, granddaughters Karen Howell and Catherine Howell. Memorial services took place on Tuesday, November 22. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
