It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of Robert Charles Kamaraus. Bob passed on in his sleep at the Weyburn Special Care Home in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 15, 2012, at the age of 57 years. Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, Kasmir Kamaraus and Adeline Podruski; step-father, Mike Podruski; mother and father-in-law, Theola and George Pepper. Bob is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Kamaraus, Weyburn; son, James (Sarah Greaves) Kamaraus, Weyburn; sister, Diane (Ken) Bialek and their daughter Kerry, Beausejour, MB. He is also survived by his wife's siblings: Beverley (Art) Perry, Saskatoon; Lucy (Greg) Smith, Central Square, NY; Lance (Barb) Pepper, St. Albert, AB; Mickey (Murray) Mattice, Regina; Janet (Dave) Olson, Calgary, AB; Velda (Grant) Varley, Regina, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was born on August 4, 1954 in Beausejour, Manitoba and having been diagnosed with scurvy at birth, he was off to a rough start. He was so fragile that his mother would carry him around on a pillow but Bob was a fighter and grew into a boy that was perhaps a bit of a handful - his sister recalls a time their father caught him about to jump off the roof using a towel as a parachute. Bob left Beausejour in 1970 to work on his uncle's farm in the Griffin area and remained there for a year or two before moving on to Weyburn. In the years that followed he worked at numerous jobs in and around the community. In 1975 he married Dorothy Pepper of Weyburn and together they had one son, James. By 1977, Bob was a Welding Apprentice and enjoyed various courses over the next few years in pursuit of a career in welding. Sadly, Bob was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in April 1982 - followed closely by Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery in October that same year. His MS progressed gradually over several years until mobility became an issue. That's when he got his first medi-cart and he was on the go from then on! He particularly enjoyed the daily trips (rain or shine) to join his coffee buddies in the mall. In August 2009, Bob moved into the Weyburn Special Care Home and immediately settled right in - it was home! Bob was a special person and took part in almost everything they had to offer - bingo, dominoes, shuffleboard tournaments, trips to the bowling alley or steak and pub nites- you name it and he was good to go. In the summer he enjoyed helping in the garden and always looked forward to visits from Barb and her dog "Hunny", mealtime with his friends and of course visits with his wife Dorothy, who dropped by whenever she could manage. In 2011, Bob participated in the "Silver Fox Run" organized for the residents of the Care Home as a fund raiser for the Terry Fox Foundation and was very pleased when he was presented an award for raising the most money. Bob had a great sense of humour and always enjoyed a good joke. He did have trouble however, actually telling one - with his giggle breaks and chuckling throughout, it sometimes took forever, but you would inevitably end up laughing - no matter what the pun! Life was most certainly not easy but, Bob never complained. Whenever someone asked "How are you feeling?" the answer was always the same - "good!" - We will miss you Bob - In honouring Bob's wishes a funeral service was held on Friday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn with Rev. John Ferrier, officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beausejour, MB. For family and friends so wishing donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary, 704-5th Street NE, Weyburn, SK S4H 1A3.
