CARLYLE — The two men charged in connection with a homicide that occurred at the White Bear First Nations had their matters back in court on May 14 in Carlyle.
Jeremy Whitebear is charged with second-degree murder and Dwayne Maxie is charged with manslaughter in the death of Talon Lonethunder in December 2024.
Their matters were adjourned to June 11 to finalize disclosure on Maxie's matter. Crown prosecutor Travis Avery said he hopes this will be the last time the matter is adjourned before a preliminary hearing is scheduled.
Whitebear remains in custody and Maxie was previously released on conditions.
Background: At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, 2024, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of an injured individual at a residence at White Bear. Officers immediately responded and located the 33-year-old Lonethunder deceased.
Charges were announced Dec. 5, 2024. Both men were on the run at that time. Whitebear was arrested two days later at White Bear. Maxie was apprehended Dec. 12 in Regina. They have had multiple court appearances since then.
