CARLYLE — Members of the Carlyle Fire Rescue Service spent most of Aug. 15 responding to an incident at a business.
According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, on Aug. 15 at 9:52 a.m., members were called to a fire in the 400-block of Eighth Street West. Fire Chief Don Van Meer said some items in the business’ yard caught fire, and the flames spread to a neighbouring property.
The second fire was extinguished quickly, but the primary blaze required the department’s attention throughout the day. Van Meer said roughly a dozen firefighters were at the scene when their response concluded.
“Crews worked throughout the day to extinguish what turned out to be a complex fire that required a large volume of water and time to properly extinguish it,” the department said. “At no time was there any threat to the community.”
If the department’s command had thought there was a threat to surrounding houses, the public would have been notified, the department said.
Water restrictions were placed by the town as a precautionary measure and the town’s water supply was never jeopardized at any time throughout the operation, the department added.
“We understand the community’s concerns but again would like to reassure everyone that there was never any threat to community members.”
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
