CARNDUFF — Carter Beck continues to pursue his dream of being the first athlete from southeast Saskatchewan to play Major League Baseball.
Beck, who hails from Carnduff and graduated high school in 2023, has spent a season with each of the University of Mary in North Dakota, a Division 2 school, and Indiana State University, a Division 1 program, in the NCAA. And he is in his second season with the Saskatoon Berries of the Western Canada Baseball League.
Playing centre field for the ISU Sycamores in the Missouri Valley Conference, Beck batted .335, hit 11 home runs and drove in 56 runs. His on-base percentage was .418.
This earned him a first-team all-conference selection.
Over this summer, he has been working out to keep himself in shape and playing ball with the Berries. He continues to excel, batting .368 with eight home runs, 37 runs batted in and nine stolen bases.
This fall, Beck will begin his third year of university, the second with ISU. He is looking forward to the upcoming season, which will begin next spring with a tournament in Puerto Rico. It will also be his first draft year, when the top collegiate players across the country are selected by Major League Baseball teams. Beck believes that if he can repeat his successes of the past two years, he has an excellent chance of being drafted.
