ESTEVAN — A report of a possible impaired driver led to a young motorist being arrested during the long weekend.
According to the Aug. 3 report from the Estevan Police Service, members received a forwarded complaint from RCMP dispatch regarding a possible impaired driver approaching the city. A description of the vehicle was provided and patrol members located it within the city, where it was observed to be travelling at high rates of speed within residential areas. No pursuit was initiated to reduce the potential danger to the public.
The vehicle was located a short time later parked at a residence, where two individuals were subsequently arrested for obstruction and impaired driving.
As a result of the investigation, a 17-year old from Estevan was issued a 60-day driver's licence suspension and his vehicle was towed. An impaired driving allegation remains under investigation and the EPS says charges are pending.
In other recent police news, EPS members were dispatched to the 500-block of First Street Aug. 2 for a report of an intoxicated male who was having trouble walking. On contact with the male, the EPS says he was found to be grossly intoxicated and unable to care for himself, which resulted in his arrest and detention. He was released when sober and no charges were laid.
Police were called to the parking lot of a local hotel for a report of a male “tweaking out”, according to the EPS. The individual was located and arrested for public intoxication and for having open alcohol in a public place. He was lodged in EPS cells and was released when sober.
The EPS received a report of a five-year-old child being left home alone. Members attended the residence and one of the child’s parents returned home a short time later. It was determined that the child was not left alone intentionally and there had been a miscommunication with an older child that was babysitting when the parents would be returning.
Police received a call regarding a possible impaired driver in east Estevan. Patrol members located the vehicle and the driver was found to be sober. The motorist was warned about the reported driving actions.
A second report of a possible impaired driver was received involving a vehicle leaving a local cannabis dispensary. Members patrolled the area immediately following the report but were unable to locate the vehicle to confirm driver sobriety.
Police conducted a wellbeing check on a local female as family had been unable to contact her via telephone. The individual was located and found to be safe and well, and the caller was updated.
EPS members received a report of criminal harassment and an investigation is ongoing.
Officers were called to a local hotel for a report of two males causing a disturbance. On arrival, it was determined that both males were intoxicated and were at the wrong hotel. They were provided a ride to the right hotel and no further issues were reported the rest of the shift.
Police were called to the Estevan Market Mall parking lot Aug. 3 for a report of youths yelling at customers as they walked out of various businesses. All of the young people were spoken to and warned of their actions.
A report of a theft from a local business was received and remains under investigation.
Police attended to a total of 58 calls for service from Aug. 1-3.
The EPS received a report of a break and enter to a residence in central Estevan Aug. 4. Members attended and the individual was gone prior to police arrival. Statements have been obtained and the matter remains under investigation.

A vehicle fire was reported outside of a residence in the Hillside area. Members attended and located a vehicle engulfed in flames. The Estevan Fire Rescue Service attended and put out the fire.
Police received a report of youths drinking alcohol at a party in a multi-family condominium, which resulted in EPS members attending and sending the attendees home. The parents of the party host were advised of the complaint and associated concerns.
Officers kept the peace while two individuals going through a break up in their relationship exchanged personal property.
Police were called to a residence in response to a child stealing money from her mother. Members attended and mediated the situation.
EPS members conducted a conditions check on two individuals who have a clause that their residence may be searched without a warrant. During the search, police located marijuana and a large knife, both of which they are prohibited from possessing. Both individuals were arrested and lodged in cells to attend court the following morning.
