Estevan police arrest two in connection with vehicle theft

A 24-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were apprehended in connection with the stolen vehicle.

ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service has announced the arrest of two people in connection with a stolen vehicle.

According to the EPS report for May 8, members attended to a hotel parking lot in east Estevan on a report of suspicious activity. Members located a male and female in a vehicle that had been reported stolen late in 2024. A 24-year-old woman from Griffin and a 35-year-old man from Estevan were arrested. 

Both will be charged with possession of property obtained by crime worth more than $5,000. The woman was released from custody and is scheduled to make her first appearance in Estevan Provincial Court on June 30.

The 35-year-old man was held in cells and will be remanded into custody to make his first appearance May 12.

The vehicle was recovered and arrangements will be made to have the property returned to the owner.

Also on May 8, the EPS received a parking complaint. The registered owner was located and warned.

Members attended to an apartment complex in the 900-block of King Street and assisted a landlord with some tenant issues.

Police received a report of an erratic driver in the northwest area on May 7. The vehicle was not located, however, a vehicle description and licence plate number were provided and the matter remains under investigation.

A report came in of a male that was sleeping at a table outside a local business and who appeared to be intoxicated. A 40-year-old man from Nova Scotia was arrested and lodged in cells until sober. He was also issued a ticket under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act for having open alcohol in a public place.

Police received a report of a dog running at large in the Trojan area. Police were busy on other calls for service at the time and when able, could not locate the dog.

Police received a report of a suspicious male at a local hotel. The man had left the scene prior to police arrival and no further incidents were reported.

Members attended to a downtown business to assist in removing an unwanted female customer who was causing issues. She had already left before police arrival.

The EPS received a complaint May 9 regarding several youths causing issues in the parking lot of a local business. Members attended and all of the young people in attendance were spoken to and warned of their actions.

Police were dispatched to a report of a break and enter at a residence in east Estevan. The Forensic Identification Unit was called out to process the scene and the matter remains under investigation.

While out on patrol, police noted smoke coming from a building in the 400-block of Kensington Avenue. The Estevan Fire Rescue Service was dispatched and members entered the building to ensure that all occupants had vacated. No injuries were reported and the building sustained some damage. Nothing suspicious was noted and the matter was turned over to the fire department to conclude the investigation
