ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) responded to a range of calls Aug. 26 and 27, including weapons offence, theft, alarms and disturbances across the city.
On Aug. 26, police received a report of a suspicious person after a tent was found in a backyard in northeast Estevan. The individual was located and warned about their actions. Officers also responded to a residential alarm in Pleasantdale, which was determined to be false.
That same day, police investigated reports of possible gunshots in a residential area. After patrolling, officers found three roofing companies working nearby and determined the loud bangs likely came from construction work.
Other Aug. 26 calls included a parking complaint at a business, a false burglar alarm during system maintenance, and a traffic stop involving a 29-year-old Saskatoon man. He was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, released, and will appear in court at a later date. The weapons were seized.
EPS also responded to a report of a UTV stuck in a ditch near a gas station. The operator was warned not to drive within city limits. Later, police investigated a report of attempted entry at a Hillcrest residence; that matter remains under investigation.
A 60-year-old man was arrested at a liquor establishment for causing a disturbance while intoxicated. He was held in cells until sober. Officers also patrolled after receiving reports of a black Dodge truck driving erratically, but the vehicle was not found. Police later mediated a domestic dispute in the Trojan area.
On Aug. 27, EPS and EMS conducted a wellness check at a residence, where the man was found safe. Police also investigated a theft at a gas station and another from a backyard; the suspect in the latter has been identified.
Officers attended a disturbance in the Hillside area, arresting a 28-year-old Estevan woman for assault. She was also breaching conditions not to contact the victim. She was charged and released with a court date. Police mediated another disturbance in the east end between two individuals who were told to separate for the night.
EPS also responded to reports of a gunshot in Pleasantdale, but residents confirmed the noise was fireworks.
