ESTEVAN — The Estevan Wildlife Federation celebrated the start of fishing season by hosting its annual Opening Weekend Walleye Classic on Boundary Dam on May 10.
Thirty-nine teams entered this year's tournament, which had a catch-and-release format. Only five teams didn't weigh in the maximum of six fish.
The team of Clinton Harkins and Darcy Dukart was the big winner. Their six fish had a combined weight of 18.34 pounds, and they also had the biggest fish of the day at 4.14 pounds.
Brad Frater and Sheldon McManus were a close second, as their fish weighed a total of 18.12 pounds. Rene Sehn and Shane Smith came in third at 17.46 pounds, Ralph and Nate Smart were fourth with their fish weighing 16.60 pounds, and Winston and Will Stockdale were fifth with six fish that came in at 15.82 pounds.
The EWF hosts the derby on the first Saturday after the start of fishing season, which is May 5 in south Saskatchewan.
