Man arrested on drug offences at southeast border crossing

According to the Canada Border Services Agency, 7.42 grams of suspected amphetamine were seized.

NORTH PORTAL - A man has been charged with two drug-related offences under the Customs Act after being arrested at the North Portal border crossing on April 27. 

Inderjit Mahal appeared in Estevan Provincial Court on April 28 to answer to the charges. One is for smuggling or attempting to smuggle goods into Canada for which the importation is prohibited, controlled or regulated. The other is for unlawfully importing amphetamines into Canada.

His case will be back in court on May 12.

According to the Canada Border Services Agency, 7.42 grams of suspected amphetamine were seized from a traveller seeking entry to Canada.

He was issued a penalty and released into Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) custody.
