ESTEVAN — A southeast Saskatchewan man’s request for bail has been denied.
A show-cause hearing was held Aug. 18 in Estevan Provincial Court for Griffin’s Skylar Matthew Trobert, who was one of two people arrested by the Carnduff RCMP July 6 in Alida.
The evidence presented during the show-cause hearing is covered by a publication ban.
After being denied bail, Trobert was remanded into custody and will make his next appearance in Estevan court Sept. 8 by video.
Trobert is facing matters in other jurisdictions as well. According to the provincial court docket for Aug. 18, he is currently facing 16 charges, including six from the July 6 arrest.
Trobert’s co-accused, Jade Loucks of Moose Jaw, also had her matters back in court on Aug. 18, and they were adjourned to Sept. 8 to review disclosure. She was previously released with conditions.
Background: Carnduff RCMP officers responded to a report of a truck that matched the description of a vehicle believed to be stolen from Weyburn. Upon locating the vehicle, police found two individuals inside. A search of the truck uncovered stolen chequebooks and other property.
As a result of the investigation, Trobert and Loucks were each charged with:
- one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
- one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;
- one count of break and enter;
- one count of possessing break-in instruments; and
- one count of mischief over $5,000.
Trobert was also charged with failing to comply with a release order. All charges are under Criminal Code.
