Southeast teams thrive at start of softball provincials

The Estevan Elite went 2-0 and the Southeast Supernovas were 1-0 on the opening day of play.

ESTEVAN — A couple of teams from southeast Saskatchewan enjoyed great starts at the Softball Saskatchewan U15 B South Provincial Championships at the Jody Waloshin Softball Diamonds in Estevan.

The Estevan Elite defeated the Weyburn Wild 10-0 in the tournament opener July 18, and then knocked off the Assiniboia Aces 12-4 in the evening game despite falling behind 4-0 in the second inning.

The Elite were back on the diamond for a game against the Yorkton Crush at 8:30 a.m.. and they will play the Lumsden Cubs at 1:30 p.m.

The Southeast Supernovas opened their tournament with a 12-5 win over the White Butte Storm Twisters. They faced the Moose Jaw Ice at 8:30 a.m. July 19 and will play against the Swift Current Sonic at 4 p.m.

Nine teams are entered the tournament. Opening ceremonies were held July 18 and playoffs are July 20.
