The Benson 4-H Beef Club members were intent on ensuring some of their recent fundraising efforts were directed to their 4-H family.

In a recent extension of their helpfulness, the club determined they wanted to help a former Benson 4-H Club member, Nolan Haukeness, whose Fort MacMurray home was destroyed in the recent northern Alberta forest fires that engulfed certain sectors of that city, sending Nolan and his wife Jenine scrambling away from the flames before they consumed their home.

While sorting out their lives and remapping plans which will include a baby later this year, the couple have temporarily returned to his home base of Estevan to stay with family members.

Learning about the tragedy, the Benson 4-H team auctioned off three specially made pies at the recent Mack Auction Consignment sale.

The pies, baked by Mona Dukart were purchased through the auction process by Harris Oilfield Construction, Wall to Wall Construction, Barr Water Hauling and Anne Arnal of Eastend Sask., with the total proceeds of $1,270 from the pie sale being directed toward the former 4-H member and friend.
