Individuals from a number of different classes at the Weyburn Comprehensive School, including cosmetology, machining, welding, carpentry, cooking, computers, public speaking and others, will be competing in the Skills Canada – Saskatchewan Competition in various locations in Saskatoon this Saturday.
This is an opportunity for talented trade students from the Comp to show off what they have learned in a competitive environment. Winners advance to the Canadian championship.
The cast has been chosen and practices are now underway for “High School Musical” to be held at the end of May.
Arrangements for a music concert titled “Singing is Life” have now been finalized for Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m. in the Cugnet Centre. The concert will feature the STARS Show Choir, the WCS combined choir, the Assiniboia Park Elementary School choir and special guests, “The Living Skies Barbershop Chorus” from Regina. This is a well-known barbershop group that wants to bring barbershop singing to an audience in Weyburn for probably the first time since Lyle Johnson had a school group in the late 1970’s. Tickets will be $10 for adults, $5 for students with 12 and under free.
There was three-way conferencing held on Monday and tonight, April 5, at the Comp.
Badminton is in full swing with a large tournament held this past weekend. Track will be starting this week.
Grad re-takes will be on Thursday, April 6, and there is no school on Friday, April 7, for a day-in-lieu of the three-way conferencing.
Next week the school will be hosting the “Lonely” Concert – the music of Roy Orbison – on Monday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cugnet Centre, presented by the Weyburn Rotary Club.
There is a “Drug Fair” on Tuesday, April 11. Events start at 1 p.m. and the public is invited along with elementary students. Parents are especially invited for some sessions in the evening.
Easter holidays will held from Good Friday, April 14, until Sunday, April 23, with classes resuming on April 24.
