Comp to host provincial cheer championship

The Weyburn Comprehensive School is hosting the provincial cheer and pom championship on Saturday, March 25. Teams will be here from across Saskatchewan to declare the provincial championship in a number of categories.

The Weyburn Comprehensive School is hosting the provincial cheer and pom championship on Saturday, March 25.
Teams will be here from across Saskatchewan to declare the provincial championship in a number of categories. The actual competition will take place in the Eagle gym, but the whole school will be utilized to stage this event.
Everyone is invited out on Saturday to witness how cheer has grown in the past dozen years from groups of girls that used to line the sidelines to cheer on the school in bygone eras. The admission price is $10 per session and there are four sessions.
There will also be a Cheer Showcase on Monday evening, March 27, in the Cugnet Centre to showcase our local teams.
Both the senior boys and girls basketball teams have advanced to the SHSAA Championship Hoopla Finals to be held in Regina on Friday and Saturday. The senior boys defeated FW Johnson by the score of 81-47, and the senior girls beat Warman 56-54.
The top scorer for the senior boys was Paul Dionne with 23 points, and Earl Pineda and Spencer Anderson each ohad 14 points. Pineda and Austin Lund were tied as the top rebounders with eight each.
For the girls, Hailey Neiszner was the top scorer with 21 points, and Brynna Spence had 10. With this event high school basketball comes to an end at WCS.
The scripts are expected to arrive early this week and preparations will begin for this year’s presentation of “High School Musical” in the last week of May by the senior grades.
The “Stars of the Festival” for the Weyburn Rotary Music Festival will be held tonight, March 22, in the Cugnet Centre, starting at 7 p.m.
In regards to music, the middle years bands will be competing in the Regina Optimist Music Festival this week.
The fruit for the Comp’s fruit sales campaign has arrived and should be delivered early this week.
This was a very successful campaign for the SRC and they would like to thank everyone who purchased products from the students in support of the many extracurricular opportunities offered at WCS.
There will be no school on Friday due to a professional development day.
