Driver in train collision dies

The Estevan RCMP detachment has announced the driver of a car that collided with a train Sunday in Macoun has passed away.


The Estevan RCMP detachment has announced the driver of a car that collided with a train Sunday in Macoun has passed away.

Father Joel Rama, 43, was injured when his northbound vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a train at the Appleton Avenue intersection in Macoun. Rama suffered serious injuries from the accident and was taken to Weyburn and then transferred to Regina by the STARS air ambulance.

In a press release issued Thursday, the RCMP said Rama succumbed to his injuries at 7:30 a.m. in Regina. Rama was the Pastor of St. John's The Baptist Roman Catholic Church and also performed services at catholic churches in the Estevan area.

The release also noted the intersection where the collision occurred is marked with railroad crossing signs and the train lights and whistles were function properly. Although the investigation will continue, no charges are expected to be laid.
