Members of the Estevan Police made an arrest for impaired driving May 7.
Police received a call around 11 p.m. of a possible impaired driver coming into Estevan on Highway 47. The vehicle was located and stopped on Souris Avenue North.
The driver, a 20-year-old Estevan man, was displaying gross signs of impairment as members interacted with him. Police called in a drug recognition expert to assist as investigators believed the impairment was caused by a combination of drugs and alcohol.
He was lodged in cells until sober and will be released with a charge of impaired driving. The investigation continues as a blood sample was obtained and will be sent for lab testing.
His name was not immediately released.
In other recent police news, members received a report of a break and enter to a local hotel over the evening hours of May 6. The matter is still under investigation at this time.
Officers responded to a complaint of a male causing a disturbance in a construction zone. On arrival the male was located and spoken to. The matter is still under investigation for possible charges of uttering threats.
Members attended to a complaint of a possible assault in the 400-block of Brooks Road. Both parties were spoken to and the matter is still being looked into.
As a result of a traffic stop in the Willow Park Greens area, a 25-year-old woman was arrested for failing to comply with her release conditions. She was also charged with failing to stop for a police officer and driving without a valid or appropriate drivers licence as she is a suspended driver.
Police received a report of a mischief to property in the Hillside area on May 3. Police attended were able to determine who damaged the property. The matter was mediated and the property was repaired by the responsible person. No further action was necessary.
Members were called to a disturbance and a downtown business on April 30. The individual left prior to the police arriving. The matter is still under investigation.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a male banging on a door in the 1200-block of Nicholson Road on April 30. As a result, a 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with mischief and two allegations of failing to comply with his conditional sentence order. He was lodged in cells and held for court.
Police arrested a 24-year-old male for failing to comply with his release conditions, after he was spotted running in the 1400-block of Nicholson Road at 1:30 a.m. He was also lodged in cells and held for court.
Officers attended to a local motel at just after 5 a.m. and arrested a male and female for possession of methamphetamine and for failing to comply with their release conditions. Both will be released when sober.
Police have received complaints from city workers recently regarding traffic disobeying signage and markers around construction areas. Members would like to remind users of the public roadways that it is road construction season and to please be attentive for crews working on repairs throughout the city.
Officers have responded to reports of people using the outdoor recreation areas around the city. As a reminder, due to the COVID-19 restrictions these recreation areas are considered closed until further notice. For everyone’s safety, please do not remove any yellow tape surrounding these areas and play structures.
