The Estevan Fire Rescue Service is urging the public to keep pumps a safe distance from homes.
In an interview with the Mercury on Monday morning, Chief Dale Feser said the pumps need to be at least 15 feet from a building. Many people are using the pumps to remove water from their basements following the thunderstorm on Sunday afternoon and evening.
The biggest concern is carbon monoxide coming from the pumps, which can be a concern to the health of residents.
Feser is also reminding parents to keep their children away from the valleys in and around Estevan, as a lot of water is flowing through them at a high rate of speed. Some of the water could contain untreated sewage.
