From May 10-14, Weyburn residents, organizations and businesses are encouraged to help clean and improve their community during the City’s first annual weeklong cleanup campaign. The Weyburn Youth Council, shown above doing a cleanup on Earth Day on April 22, are giving a good example of how residents can pitch in to help.
Wey-Clean Week was inspired by the City’s Environmental Resources Committee, with a purpose to encourage simple actions by Weyburn residents to tackle litter and properly dispose of waste to make the community a safer and more attractive place to live, play and work.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, this year’s campaign encourages small group participation in neighbourhoods. The City is highlighting different neighbourhoods each day of the week, using its garbage collection areas (visit www.weyburn.ca/refuse-collection for area map):
• May 10 – City crews focusing city-wide
• May 11–Area 1
• May 12–Area 2
• May 13–Area 3,4 & 5
• May 14 – Downtown
The City encourages small groups of immediate family households, coworkers, recreation teams, school classes, etc., to tour the streets in an area of their choosing and pickup litter.
There are public garbage cans located in all city-owned parks. GFL will also be setting up temporary roll off bins in each area to dispose of the garbage you collect; a map with bin locations can be found on the City’s website (www.weyburn.ca/environmental-initiatives/wey-clean-week).
