The City of Estevan has been actively monitoring water levels, continuing with cleanup efforts and assessing damages, according to Tuesday's press release from the city.

Estevan received minimal rainfall on Monday night, but some rain fell on Tuesday morning. The city’s drainage systems continue to function and are working well, but more rain is in the forecast for Estevan.

“People need to stay off the streets if further rains and flooding occur,” the news release stated.

The flood relief centre, which is operated by volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross, continues to be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium.

“They are continuing to provide assistance to anyone who has been affected by the flooding,” the news release stated. “This includes distributing cleanup kits, public health information for post-flooding events, as well as SaskEnergy information regarding generators, water heaters, furnaces, etc.”

Mental health will be providing information from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Four roads remain closed: the 600 block of Sixth Street, Fourth Avenue South, Woodlawn Avenue South and the Estevan Humane Society’s access road.

“It is extremely important for the public to stay away from these areas for your personal safety.”

Pathways along Fourth Avenue South and in the Pleasantdale Valley are also closed.

The Provincial Emergency Management and Fire Safety branch are sending five rapid responders to Estevan, along with a semi-trailer containing water pumps. An empty cargo trailer and a boat trailer are also being sent and can be used if necessary.

Application forms are not yet available. Once they become available, the public will be notified and directed where to pick them up.

A state of emergency remains in effect for Estevan.
