A special Multicultural Day in the Park will celebrate Canada’s 150 anniversary, with many different events being held in River Park on Saturday, June 24. The Weyburn and District United Way and the Tatagwa Parkway Committee are hosting this event.
“This is a new initiative for the United Way,” said Jacquie Becker, organizer of the event. Anyone who is interested in helping with this event or wants more information about it can call herself as the chair or vice-chair Linda Rideout.
The Multicultural Day in the Park will start with a Walk-A-Thon at 10 a.m., which will be held in the Tatagwa Parkway trail system. During this family-friendly walk-a-thon, participants will aim to collect pledges for the Weyburn and District United Way. For more information, or for a registration form, interested families can contact Lydia Niemegeers at Olympia In Depth Performance.
Entertainment and demonstrations will start at 11 a.m. There will be some fantastic ethnic entertainment throughout the day, including people in traditional dress. In addition, there will be many amazing crafts and activities during the day at the Family Tent. Those who are interested in volunteering at the Family Tent can contact Elizabeth Lambe.
A variety of exhibits from Weyburn and area will be set up around River Park, featuring locally made items on display and for sale. Food vendors who wish to prepare and sell traditional foods are also encouraged to become an exhibitor. In addition, a number of member agencies of the Weyburn and District United Way will have an exhibition table, where they promote their organizations and what they do to serve the community of Weyburn and the surrounding areas.
The event is being planned jointly with the Weyburn Multicultural Council, the Southeast Newcomers Services and the International Women of Weyburn organization.
