Outram-Torquay news for June

Sympathy is also extended to the family of Ken Phillips, who died on June 25 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A funeral mass will be held on July 2 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Meredith officiating.   

Members of the Mantei family attended a memorial service for Brunhilda (Bunny) Steidle on June 25 in Winnipeg. They enjoyed visiting with Utho Steidle and family. 

Marlene Dolinski of Brandon, Manitoba, has been visiting at the home of her mother, Dorothea Sabin. 

William Duncan completed his lacrosse season. His team was part of the Regina League, so most of the games were in Lumsden. A tournament was held in Estevan on June 18, and the playoffs were June 19 in Regina. 

Rebecca Duncan competed for the High Performance Synchro Sask. team on June 11 in Saskatoon. Final marks were not immediately available. She also played in the Estevan Squirt Girls’ Softball Tournament on June 25.  

Rebecca completed her Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 3 voice exam with a mark of 90. Rachel Duncan finished her Grade 1 exam with a mark of 88, and William Duncan had a mark of 86. The examinations were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 8. 

Congratulations to Destiny Adams, who successfully passed her ballet, highland and jazz dance exams. She is competing with the Estevan Golden Eels Swim Club this summer, and will be dancing in the opening ceremonies of the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Estevan.

Heather and Jeff Pyra had company from June 21 to 24, including Jeff’s mother, Chris, from North Battleford, and Jeff’s brother, David, from Montreal.

Several individuals from the area attended the Divide County Rodeo at Crosby, N.D., on June 19. Rebecca Duncan, Jacob Pyra, Sasha Mantei and Gracie Leblanc were on one team, while Isabelle Pyra, Sarah Pyra, Rachel Duncan and Sierra Mantei were on the Powder Puffs, who took third place in the seven-and-under division.

Jacob, Sarah and Isabell Pyra, Rachel Duncan and Seirra Mantei entered the stick horse races at the Estevan Fair June 20. Jacob and Sarah Pyra, William and Rachel Duncan and Sierra Mantei were in the Little Spurs Rodeo in Weyburn on June 23.

Torquay Play School had their graduation on May 19 at the Torquay Community Center. Program co-ordinator Cindy Daae held a special ceremony. This year's graduates and their special guests were: Amie Peters and her mother, Sarah, and older sister, Haylie; Ava Young and her mother, Jessica; Katie Krassman and her grandmother, Hedy Joice; and Julie Berg, with her mother, Nicki Berg, and grandmother, Sheila Berg.

The Torquay Quilters Guild hosted a quilting show on June 18 at the Torquay Community Center. There was an old-fashioned bed turning, followed by tea and dainties.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Torquay is holding their annual vacation Bible school (VBS) on August 22 to 26.
