Saskatchewan Health, in partnership with the regional health authorities, has implemented plans to ensure the current influenza vaccine supplies are used as effectively as possible.
The current focus for the influenza immunizations in Sun Country Health Region are on children under five years of age, which is from six months of age to 59 months of age, pregnant women and up to four weeks post partum and severely immuno-compromised people such as transplant recipients, dialysis patients, and people currently receiving cancer treatment.
If you are in one of the priority groups listed above and want to receive your flu vaccine, please call your local Public Health office to make an appointment for an influenza immunization.
As the new supply of vaccine becomes available in Sun Country Health Region, the region will provide influenza shots to the priority groups only, for as long as supplies last. All flu immunizations in the Sun Country Health Region are to be arranged by appointment only, with a Public Health Nurse.
Dr. Shauna Hudson, Medical Health Officer for Sun Country Health Region, reminds the public that in addition to vaccination, people can help protect themselves against influenza through frequent hand washing, coughing and sneezing into their sleeve, cleaning surfaces often and staying at home when sick.
