Numerous projects in southeast Saskatchewan will benefit from funding through the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF).
Several projects from Estevan received funding from the CIF Community Grant Program: the Estevan Area Literacy Group received $15,000 for its Reading is Fun program; the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum received $3,000 for Drop In To Art After School; the Pure Energy Early Learning Centre and Estevan Day Care Co-operative was awarded $2,000 for summer and fall programs; and the Estevan Family Resource Centre was allocated $25,000 for family education and crisis counselling.
Also receiving support was the Carlyle-based Cornerstone Family and Youth’s community programming and education initiative, which was allocated $5,000.
As part of the community grant program’s summer grants, $5,000 was awarded to the following initiatives: the Bienfait Coalfield Historical Society’s Museum Kids Days Day Camp; the Carlyle and District Leisure Complex and Crescent Point Leisure Complex’ summer programs; the Cornerstone Family and Youth’s summer program in Carlyle; the Estevan Area Literacy Group’s Summer English Fun, the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum’s Artist in the Making summer camps, the Estevan Family Resource Centre’s school-age summer discovery kids camp; the Expressway Family Centre’s community summer programming in Oxbow; the Kenosee Lake Bible Camp’s summer camp program supplies and expenditures; the Redvers Early Learning and Child Care Centre’s Experiencing the Seasons initiative; and the Sun Country Health Region’s Kids First Main Street Mobile program.
Also receiving support through summer grants were: the Manor Public Library received $1,610 for its summer reading program. the Oungre Public Library received $367 for its summer reading club concert; the Souris Valley Museum in Estevan received $2,500 for its summer camp programs; the Souris Valley Theatre in Estevan received $2,615 for its youth theatre camps; and the Midale Public Library received $1,700 for its TD Summer Reading Club.
CIF announced on June 28 that it would allocate $7,665,369 to 409 projects across the province, through its Feb. 1 and April 1 deadlines.
With CIF support, Saskatchewan communities benefit from having access to local projects. Grant programs are targeted to support initiatives that enhance individual and community wellbeing, and improved quality of life for Saskatchewan residents.
Through the Community Grant Program, CIF approved 201 grants totalling $6,673,974.
Additionally, 208 projects were approved through the Community Grant Program’s Summer Grants, totalling $991,395.
CIF’s Community Places and Spaces Program has an application deadline of October 1. This program supports small capital renovations that improve the sustainability, accessibility, and long-term use of multipurpose community facilities such as halls, recreation facilities and playgrounds.
