Regina police change assault charges to homicide

The incident is the second homicide in Regina in 2022

Following an assault in early March that left a victim dead, Regina Police Service have now upgraded the charges on the individual in custody to homicide.

REGINA — A man previously charged with assault is now facing homicide charges in Regina, after the victim died in hospital earlier this month.

Regina police were dispatched to a residence on the 1000 block of Rae Street on March 5, at around 8 p.m., for an assault in progress.

A man was located at this time, appearing to be the victim of a “brutal physical assault” and was transported to hospital by paramedics.

Investigation by several resources within the Regina Police Service identified a 34-year-old suspect, who was arrested on March 12 for aggravated assault. 

The following day, the male victim died in hospital. He was identified as Marcel Sentes, 43, of Regina and his family has been notified of his passing. Sentes is the second victim of homicide in Regina this year.

The accused's assault charges have now been upgraded to one count of second degree murder.

He made his first appearance on this charge in provincial court on Monday.
