The Southeast (SE) College and the Sun Country Health Region (SCHR) have announced a new bursary program that will benefit both students and the health region moving forward.

Students in the continuing care assistant full-time program may be eligible for up to $2,500 each in combined scholarship and bursary programs. The combined programs include SCHR bursaries, SE College entrance scholarships and the Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship.

“We are very excited about this partnership with Sun Country,” said Jeff Richards, the vice-president of strategic development at the college.

“This new partnership will bring additional bursary dollars directly to the students enrolled in Southeast College’s continuing care assistant program.”

The program last for 30 weeks and teaches students the knowledge and skills they need to work in health care. Practicums throughout the course provide direct experience in home care, long-term care, and acute care settings.

“This partnership benefits the region, and ultimately those clients receiving services, as the region is able to hire candidates who already have the competencies and skills required for positions in our home care and long-term care programs,” said SCHR president and CEO Marga Cugnet.

The SE College and the health region will be hosting a joint open house and information session on June 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Tatagwa View in Weyburn.
