Update: Estevan Police Service Chief Paul Ladouceur and Estevan Fire Rescue Service Chief Dale Feser reached their $5,000 fundraising goal for Special Olympics in Saskatchewan, and have been released from prison.

The two were escorted into an Estevan Police Service cell Friday afternoon just after 4 p.m., and couldn't be released until they cleared the $5,000 mark. They did so just after 10 p.m. Friday night.

The funds raised will be directed to the Estevan Police Service's entry for the Saskatchewan law enforcement torch run for Special Olympics, which is happening virtually this year. When Ladouceur and Feser were taken to jail, the EPS team had raised more than $2,600.

Both Feser and Ladouceur thanked the community for their generosity during these tough times. The EPS sent out a tweet on its Twitter page, saying how proud they were of the community to raise $5,00 to support the incredible athletes of Special Olympics.

Feser had a similar message, saying Estevan is such a generous community, especially during these tough times.

Special Olympics Saskatchewan also sent out a tweet to Ladouceur and Feser, thanking them for their support.

The EPS continues to fundraise for Special Olympics. You can visit https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/mobile/mobilePersonalPage.aspx?registrationID=4700143&langPref=en-CA&Referrer=direct%2fnone to support them. As of Saturday morning, they had raised $5,075.
