A power outage has come to an end in Estevan.

ESTEVAN - Power has been restored in Estevan after an outage that spanned much of the evening.

According to a post on its Twitter feed at 7:16 p.m., SaskPower said crews had been dispatched and were determining the cause and repair time for the outage.

No further details were immediately released.

SaskPower provided an update at 9:06 p.m., saying power had been restored.

In an email to the Mercury, SaskPower said a total of 2,739 customers were affected from 7:15 to 9 p.m. in the north and northwest parts of Estevan. Most affected customers were north of King Street. No rural areas were affected.

The cause was a tripped transmission line, likely a result of a bird getting into equipment at the substation. The Crown corporation pointed out wildlife such as squirrels or birds are a common cause of power outages.
