Access Communications is the newest diamond event sponsor for the Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games, and they are also the official broadcast sponsor for the games as well.
“Access Communications is proud to be on board with this very, very special event,” said Access Communications community programming manager Wade Peterson.
According to Summer Games co-chair Brian Smith, coverage will include live streaming for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as two live events each day, along with a wrap up show.
“We all know that Access Communications are very big in the community, they support numerous events over the years, and they’re going to do us proud, and we’re going to have a great working relationship with them,” said Smith.
Along with being a $60,000 diamond sponsor, Access Communications gets to choose a venue to put their name to; having been involved with the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Meadow Lake, where they were also the softball venue sponsor, they wanted to continue that tradition for the 2016 summer games, and they chose the softball venue.
“In Saskatchewan it’s very popular, and in previous games we’ve done before, we’ve also become event sponsors of softball and we thought again it would be a really good fit to continue with our softball sponsorship for the event itself,” said Peterson.
With Access Communications being community-based, Peterson believes that being the official broadcast sponsor is the right fit for them to showcase the city.
“From the business community, to the business leaders, this is a fabulous place to live, so here’s our opportunity to insure the rest of the province gets an opportunity to see how great Estevan is,” he said.
He also mentioned Access will be broadcasting the Games to communities throughout Saskatchewan.
“With us having over 80 communities for playback, we can showcase these games from Estevan to every region in the province. So, for us that’s a good fit, and that’s what we really want is to ensure that these games are showcased through a community channel and … it gives those people at home who can’t make it down here, an opportunity to watch their children participate,” said Peterson.
The softball event will be taking place at the Pleasantdale Softball Diamonds, and during the games there will 120 female athletes playing. The softball tournament will run from July 28 to 30, 2016.
