Apex Bruins win one of three.

The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins dropped two close games to the Prairie Storm Extreme, but recovered to rout the Lumsden-Bethune Lions. Estevan lost 5-4 to the Extreme on Jan. 25 in Emerald Park and 3-2 in overtime on Jan. 26 in Balgonie.

Estevan lost 5-4 to the Extreme on Jan. 25 in Emerald Park and 3-2 in overtime on Jan. 26 in Balgonie. Estevan had a 3-2 lead with less than five minutes to play in the third on Jan. 25, but gave up three unanswered goals. A late goal by Triston Sorenson, his second of the game, pulled Estevan to within one.

Chase Gedak and Trey Stovin also scored.

Cale Adams had both of Estevan’s goals in the second game against the Extreme. The Extreme tied the game at twos with 98 seconds to play in the third and notched the winner with 23 seconds to play.

Estevan actually trailed Lumsden-Bethune 2-1 after the first period, and the game was tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes. But Estevan scored eight times in the third.

Stovin scored in the first and Gedak had the Estevan goal in the second. Joey Meredith scored twice in the third, while Adams, Gedak, Dylan Hull, Jared Fornwald, Tayce Miller and Sorenson had Estevan’s goals in the third.

Zane Winter was in goal for the first game against the Extreme and the game against the Lions. Morgan Wanner was the goalie in the other game.

The midget AA Bruins have a 20-10-2 record, which leaves them third in the South Division.

The Estevan TS&M bantam AA Bruins won a pair of games on the road last weekend, defeating the Swift Current Broncos 4-3 on Saturday and the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-0 Sunday.

Mason Fichter and Mason Kukura scored less than a minute apart in the first period Saturday to give Estevan a 2-0 lead, but the Broncos responded with a goal in the first and two in the second to lead 3-2 after two.

Kaden Chrest’s tally with 4:36 to play in the third period tied the game, and Fichter’s second of the game less than a minute later was the winner.

Jackson Miller made 31 saves for the victory.

Chrest scored twice, including the game-winning goal 11 minutes into the first period, in the win over Moose Jaw. Fichter and James Mann had the other goals.

Joshua Bittman stopped all 25 shots he faced to get the win for the Bruins, whose record now stands at 13-9-0-2.

The bantam AAs will host Moose Jaw on Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. and Swift Current the following day at 4 p.m.

The Estevan Meter Peewee AA Bruins shelled the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-1 on Monday night in Moose Jaw. Kade Phillips, Carter Onrait and Rylan Hansen scored in the first period to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead.

After Moose Jaw scored early in the second, Jayden Kuchinka, Phillips and Mason Barta scored for Estevan in the second for 6-1 advantage.

Onrait added his second of the game in the third to round out the scoring.

Ryder Davidson was in goal for the win.

Two nights later, Estevan rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the final seven minutes of the third period to tie the Weyburn Red Wings 2-2. Chase Foord and Onrait scored for the Bruins.

Ty Fehrenbach was the goalie for Estevan (10-11-3).

They will close out the regular season with a home game against Moose Jaw Feb. 2 at Affinity Place at 1:30 p.m.
