The Arcola-Kisbey Combines have advanced to the quarter-final round in the Big Six Hockey League playoffs.
Arcola-Kisbey defeated the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Capitals 5-2 Friday night to win the two-game, total-goal play-in series 8-6.
The Oil Capitals had a 4-1 lead at one point in the third period in Game 1 Thursday night, but the Combines rallied with two markers late in the third to pull within one.
Kipling-Windthorst opened the scoring in Game 2, but Arcola-Kisbey rattled off five unanswered goals, including three in the second period, to take the lead in the series. The Oil Capitals final goal didn’t come until the last minute in the third.
The Combines will now play the top-seeded Redvers Rockets in a best-of-five quarter-final series. Game 1 will be Sunday in Redvers at 5:30 p.m.
One other series in the Big Six is underway. The reigning champions, the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings, rallied from a 2-0 deficit to edge the Wawota Flyers 5-4 Friday night in Yellow Grass.
Game 2 in that series will be Sunday in Wawota. Yellow Grass is the No. 3 seed, while Wawota is ranked sixth.
As for the other two series, the No. 2 Carnduff Red Devils will face the No. 7 Midale Mustangs Saturday night in Carnduff, starting at 8 p.m.
And the series between the No. 4 Carlyle Cougars and the No. 5 Bienfait Coalers starts Sunday in Carlyle, with that game beginning at 7 p.m.
In provincial play, Redvers will visit Langenburg Saturday in a best-of-three senior C south quarterfinal. The game will start at 8 p.m.
