The Arcola/Kisbey Combines are on the board with their first win of the Big Six Hockey League season just a few days before Christmas.
The Combines (1-11-0) defeated the Carlyle Cougars (1-13-1) 5-3 on home ice Friday, Dec. 22 in their last game before Christmas. Trailing 3-2 after the first period, Rhett Palmer scored twice in the second period to give the Combines the lead. Walker Hengen scored an insurance marker and the Combines held onto the lead through the third period. Brett Turgeon scored a goal and two assists for the Cougars.
The Carnduff Red Devils (12-1-0) remain in first place and have a five-point lead on the two-time defending league champion Wawota Flyers (8-1-3) on the strength of a nine game winning streak. Carnduff won 5-2 over the Redvers Rockets (9-5-0) Friday on the strength of a four goal second period. Brandon Trask had two goals and two assists for the Red Devils and Mark Moriarty scored two goals and an assist. Cory Jones and Brady Fidierchuk scored for the Rockets.
The Midale Mustangs (8-5-0) won 4-3 over the Oxbow Huskies (5-9-0) Saturday thanks to a pair of third period goals in their second of a home and home series. With Oxbow leading 3-2 after the second period Saturday, Tyler Hoium’s scored his second of the game at 4:10 of the third and Brad Tomiski scored with 6:50 on the clock in the third for the eventual game winner. Derek Cooney had a goal and two assists for the Huskies.
Midale won 8-5 the previous night in Oxbow, who has now dropped five in a row.
The Big Six has the Christmas break off until next weekend, when seven games are on the schedule. Carnduff is at Oxbow Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 and Arcola/Kisbey go to Midale. Saturday, Carnduff is at Bienfait (7-5-0), Yellow Grass is at Arcola/Kisbey Redvers is at Wawota and Oxbow is at Carlyle.
