The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs badminton program sent competitors in the boys’ singles and the mixed doubles divisions to the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association’s provincial competition in Weyburn on Saturday.

Sage Dayman was entered in boys’ singles. He went 1-2 in the round-robin, which left him third in his pool, and he didn’t advance to the medal round.

Dayman opened the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Trystan Black from Regina’s Balfour Collegiate. Black would go on to win the provincial title. Then Dayman dropped a 2-0 decision to Leoville Central School’s Tanor Thomas.

Dayman finished the tournament on a positive note, as he upended Wadena Composite High School’s Darian Sunshine 2-0 in the final round-robin game.

Meanwhile, John Sasi and Sammi Wade were entered in mixed doubles. They finished with a 0-3 record at provincials.

Their first game was the closest, as they dropped a 2-1 decision to École Gravelbourg School’s Isabelle Piche and Ryan Boire.

Then they suffered a pair of 2-0 defeats, losing to Medstead Central School’s Kendra Moore and Damian Friesen, and to Annaheim School’s Jeremy Funk and Brooke Johnson.
