Bantam Bear Cats split weekend

The Estevan Bantam Bear Cats ran into some stiff competition with one of their opponents, the Moose Jaw Mavericks but were able to get a win out of the weekend.

The Estevan Bantam Bear Cats ran into some stiff competition with one of their opponents, the Moose Jaw Mavericks but were able to get a win out of the weekend.

The Bear Cats defeated Weyburn Creekside 5-3 at Alameda Saturday and lost 7-2 to the Mavericks in Saskatchewan Female Bantam Hockey League action.  

Saturday, they jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from McKenna Walls and Jacey Farr, but Weyburn came back with a pair of their own before the end of the second period. Farr and Walls scored in the third period to restore the Bear Cats’ lead but Weynurn responded with one more.

Karmi Olfert scored on the power play with 2:45 left in the third period to seal the Bear Cats’ win. Goaltender Emmey Rae stopped 24 shots in the win.

Sunday, Cadance Chapman and Olfert scored the Bear Cats goals, with Rae in net for the loss.

After the Bantam Bear Cats’ game Wednesday night in Regina against the Renegades, their next scheduled game is in Alameda Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Prairie Storm.

The South East Goldwings midget AA team played at home in Midale Saturday but the result was unavailable.

The Carlyle Wildcats lost 5-2 Saturday to the Regina Renegades in their season opener in the Saskatchewan Female Midget A Hockey League. Courtney Roppel and Kassidy Johnson scored for the Wildcats to help get the team an early 2-1 lead, but the Renegades scored four unanswered to end the game. Kalli Adams played in net for the Wildcats. 

The midget A result between the Regina Renegades and the South East TS&M Goldwings Sunday in Midale was unavailable, as was the result between the Prairie Storm Thunder and Carlyle Wildcats in Carlyle Sunday. Carlyle and the Giodlwings take on each other Saturday night at Carlyle.

The atom Bear Cats won 9-0 over the Weyburn AtoMc Gold in Weyburn Saturday. Julia Durr scored five goals and Kaybree Fonstad added a pair of her own in the win. Emma Holzer and Bentlee Fairbrother scored the other goals. The Bearcats’ next game is Nov. 4 in Weyburn when they take on the Weyburn AtoMc Gold. 

The Estevan Senchuk Bear Cats dropped a 4-2 decision to the Weyburn DQ Blizzards in Weyburn. Miley Lockerby and Hudsyn Hozjan scored for the Senchuk Bearcats in the third period as Estevan tried to mount a comeback.  The Senchuk Bear Cats’ next action is Saturday and Sunday at the Power Dodge Ice Centre against the Swift Current Thunder.
