Bass Battles brings anglers to Boundary Dam

Tournament saw many fish caught during the August long weekend.
Brian McQuinn had the longest bass at 49.5 centimetres.

ESTEVAN - Competitive anglers could be found on the Boundary Dam Reservoir during the August long weekend for the Bass Battles fishing derby.

The catch-and-release tournament ran from July 30 to Aug. 1. Using the catch photo format that became common during the COVID-19 pandemic, the anglers could fish as often as they wanted and catch as many fish as they pleased, but had to measure their fish using the MyCatch app offered by Angler's Atlas.

The cumulative length of the five longest fish determined the winner. A prize was also handed out for the longest fish.

Matthew Terleski was the winner, as he caught five fish with a cumulative size of 242.7 centimetres. Kyle Poirier was next at 238.7 centimetres and Derek Robins was third at 235.9 centimetres. Ryan Dyck (235.3 centimetres) and Brian McQuinn (231.8 centimetres) rounded out the top five.

McQuinn had the longest catch at 49.5 centimetres. Terleski had the next four largest catches.

Tourism Estevan was a presenting sponsor for the tournament.

Boundary Dam is the only body of water in Saskatchewan to offer large-mouth bass fishing due to the temperature of the water.
