The Weyburn Beavers won two games over the weekend, making them a .500 team in the standings.
Currently both the Beavers and Melville Millionaries are tied for third/fourth place in the Eastern division of the Western Major Baseball league.
The Beavers captured a 3-2 win over the Regina Red Sox on Sunday night.
The Beavers started strong with all three of their runs scored in the second inning. Regina scored once in the fourth inning and once in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Nick Dorcean was the starting pitcher for the Beavers. He had one run off two hits in eight innings. Eric Evans pitched relief.
The Beavers split two home games against the Yorkton Cardinals, losing 7-1 on Friday night and winning 5-4 on Saturday.
Since Friday night was the home opener for the Beavers, they had a small opening ceremonies celebration. Minor ball players from Oungre joined the Beavers on the field, as Jayda and Taylor Cameron sang both the Canadian and American national anthems. Then Dwight McMillan threw the ceremonial first pitch.
During Friday night’s game, Yorkton scored two runs in the first inning, a run in the fourth inning and four runs in the sixth. The Beavers had one run scored in the sixth inning.
During Saturday night’s game, Weyburn scored two runs in the second inning and three runs in the third. The Cardinals scored once in the fourth inning and three runs in the eighth.
Earlier in the week, the Beavers lost a close 3-2 game against the Meville Millionaires on June 1. Melville opened with two runs in the second inning and a run in the fourth inning. The Beavers scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Next action for the Beavers is in Moose Jaw on Thursday, June 9 when they play the Miller Express. Then the Beavers host two games this weekend, hosting Melville on Friday, June 10 and Moose Jaw on Saturday, June 11.
